| Paul & Erin's Wedding Cake made November 2009 |
This was my first Wedding cake!
The inspirtion for this cake was the movie "Because I said so". The flavours were Mars bar chocolate mude cake, caramel mud cake and white chocolate mud cake. The very top teir was a dummy cake. They were covered in chocolate Ganache and fondant. The cake had to be transported to Montville so the cake had a dowel attached to the base board. I made all of the red lillies that are on the cake. I was pleased with the way it turned out. To make the inverted shape I had to cut each cake into layers and make each layer smaller than the bottom layer. This was the first cake that I used Bakels fondant RTR icing. I was using Cake Art previously and after reading the "Planet Cake" forums decided to try Bakels brand. It really is so much easier to roll and use! I had a problem becuse the cake shops near me did not have black powderd colouring in stock. I bought the Cake Art black fondant and mixed in Some bakels fondant and it seemed to work quite well. The Bride was pleased with the cake ...and I was very pleased when it was finished!!!!!

| Hannah's 16th Birthday cake made in 2009 |
Barbie Princess
This was my first Barbie doll cake. I purchased a dolly vardin tin especially for this creation and hopefully it won't be my last! I had fun decorating the beautiful gown. Hannah had great difficulty cutting it and eating it! She likes fruit cake.....so it lasted for a while. I pulled the legs off the Barbie doll much to Annabelle's disgust! I tried to continue the pattern on the bodice over the cake.

| R.M. Williams Shoe Cake - Entry for Ekka 2009 |
RM Williams Boot
This was the first time I had entered a cake at the exhibition as I only made my first cake in March 2008. I was very delighted when I won first prize in the open novelty section called "These boots were made for walking"! This means that from now on I can only enter cakes in the Open section! I will try again this year! I am learning all the time and hopefully improving my technique. I am self taught using books and the internet! One day I would like to do a planet cake course! The stewards at the Ekka were very encouraging and it was very helpful receiving a written report so that I can improve! It was made out of fruit cake because it needs to last for quite a while!

Tiffany Box
I was given a Tiffany silver necklace by my family and friends so I made a Tiffany box. I also made matching cupcakes. I need to improve on the base of my cakes. I made the bow using a video on the Planet Cake website. I go visit the site quite frequently!

| A Cocktail Cake |
I made a cake using a spherical cake tin. I covered the cake with black fondant and let it dry overnight. I then experimented with the white small square tiles. I left some to dry overnight and also painted them silver. They were not used on the cake because they needed to be moist to manipulate them over the sperical cake. The silver tiles did not show up the edible glitter. The photo does not do the cake justice as they looked more effective in real life. The light sparkled off the edible glitter and it really looked fantastic. The little squares were quite difficult to place and some did move out of shape. I worked into the early hours of the morning but I would certainly perfect this technique if I make another one! I purchased the edible glitter online as I was not able to find a place that sold it in Brisbane! I am not sure why but the cake decorating supply stiores stock limited colours and cake glitters etc. I paid $20.00 for the glitter! $10.00 for the glitter and $10.00 for express postage!!!!! |
