A letter I received from Anna Bligh(Education minister at the time) Saying that she could not really help me find a Brisbane teaching job (close to medical treatment) and that I had to apply for a position like everybody else! After some time I eventually got a contract at Dakabin State school. This was a difficult time as I was still receiving maintance therapy in the form of a ATRA and another chemotherapy drug. I often had to leave school and rush to the RBH (about a 45 min drive) for blood tests to check levels. On one occasion my levels were so low I had to take sick leave the following day to have a blood transfusion. When I returned to school the following day a parent was annoyed that I was away from school. I explained that I was having treatment for Leukaemia and she replied "Don't give me your Leukaemia sob story!" Not everyone is compasionate when you are faced with difficulties in life!
